How to Develop Mindfulness in Your Daily Activities
Bringing Mindfulness Into Your Everyday Routine
Life moves quickly and it’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of our daily routines. We’re often so busy that we forget to stop, breathe, and truly experience the present moment. Incorporating mindfulness into our day-to-day activities can bring a sense of peace and balance to our lives, and there’s no better place to start than in our fitness routines.
What Is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment—and accepting it without judgment. It’s about taking a moment to check in with yourself, how you’re feeling, and what’s going on around you.
How Can You Practise Mindfulness In Everyday Activities?
Incorporating mindfulness into your daily life is easier than you might think. Here are three ways you can get started:
1. Focus on Your Breath
When you’re exercising, focus on your breath. Pay attention to your inhales and exhales. How does it feel as the air comes in and goes out? Try to keep your attention on your breath for the duration of your workout. If your mind wanders, just gently bring it back to your breath.
2. Pay Attention to Your Body
Feel your body moving. Whether you’re lifting weights, running, or participating in a yoga class, pay close attention to how your body feels. Notice the strength of your muscles, the rhythm of your heart, and the sweat on your skin.
3. Be Present in Daily Activities
You can bring mindfulness to any part of your day. Whether you’re washing dishes, brushing your teeth, or eating a meal, try to stay fully present and focused on what you’re doing.
