Managing Screen Time for You and the Kids
Our Digital Life
We don’t need to tell you how so much of our life involves screens. Phones, tablets, televisions, computers – they’re everywhere. What’s more, our children’s lives are entwined with screens, too.
Finding the Balance
On one hand, technology and screens allow us to do some pretty cool things and can be great learning tools for our kids. On the other hand, too much screen time can compromise our health and well-being, interfere with our children’s development and sleep patterns, and keep us from physical activities we love.
Best Practices for Managing Screen Time
We’ve gathered a few simple tips to help you manage screen time for you and your children:
- Set specific limits. Decide how much time each day screens are allowed.
- Have screen-free times. This could be during meals, an hour before bedtime, or certain days of the week.
- Make screens stay in one place. Having screens in only a designated area (not in bedrooms, for example) can help manage usage.
- Be a role model. Show your children that it’s important to balance screen time with other activities.
